Message from the President Summer 2020

Summer greetings to FMBAA members.

We are mid-point between the last season and the upcoming 2020-2021 season. With everything going on, I think an update is in order.

Firstly, I hope all members and their loved ones are well. Covid-19 impacts seem to keep on coming. Now Florida is a very hot spot.

Summer in the Gallery

The gallery is still spruced up and ready to go. We’ve had a regular set of members painting on most Wednesdays. The Summer Online Show has been a great learning experience and new images are always welcome.

Our upcoming season is well planned.

This is the first year without a yearbook being published. The website will have all the schedules for classes, famous artist workshops, short workshops, events and more.

  • Our Main Show schedule is set: click here
  • Our Studio 2 show schedule is here
  • Intertwined with our show schedule is the Famous Artist Workshops schedule: here
  • Finally you can find our member-led classes and short workshop schedule here: here
  • Other events are on our calendar here

Impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the island

I was listening to the radio and the CEO of American Airlines was saying that planning is, now, very difficult. It is the same for FMBAA. Already major events in FMB such as the Roar Offshore boat races and the international sand sculpting championships have been canceled.

We all look forward to group events, like Potlucks and Receptions. Whether they can happen is TBD.

Regarding the other ‘well planned’ activities in the upcoming season, I will be working with the board and chairpersons to develop contingency plans for shows, workshops, and events to keep FMBAA functioning and the members safe.

Updates:
– The Maggie Nevens’ Famous Artist Workshop (November 9-11) has been canceled.
– Cheryl Fausel’s 1st session for watercolor classes (November and December dates) has been canceled.

In Memorium:

We are sad to announce that recently 2 former very active members have passed away:

Joan Handel, former FMBAA president from 2004 thru 2006, passed away in Fort Myers on June 11th.

Joan Stobart, active FMBAA member for many years passed away on June 21st. FMBAA was special to Joan and her family asked for memorial donations which have endowed a new ‘Best in Show’ award for the Spring show. Endowed awards are listed here Joan’s obituary is here.

Stay safe,
Tom Flaherty
