Message from the President Oct 2020

It’s that time of year again. The temperatures are cooling off, the kapok tree at the gallery is blooming. But this year is a bit different. The gallery has been closed to the public for 7 months and will finally open on October 19th.

When we are open, it is most important that the gallery remains a safe haven for our artists. We are requiring masks inside the gallery and are limiting occupancy to 20 people at a time to allow for easy social distancing.

This will be a lean year for FMBAA financially. All classes and workshops for November and December have been canceled by the instructors for good reason. We will have to see about gallery activities in 2021.

So far the October Potluck and the Fall Judged Show Reception social events are canceled. In November, we’ll consider the Art Divine reception possibly as a garden event.

So,again, what can our members (you) do to help the organization?

  • Enter our Shows, keep the Gallery packed with art!
  • Participate in indoor and outdoor painting groups
  • Keep our Facebook community going here
  • Paint Mini Masters for our 70th birthday celebration next year
  • Sign-up for a Famous Artist workshop Here
  • Renew your membership early as membership dues make up a significant portion of our yearly budget. Be aware that the dues are being raised next year and membership dues paid after the new year will pay the higher fee.

As usual the season will start with a Member Show now titled the ‘October Member Show’. This will be our standard non-judged show to open the season. As there will be no Potluck, the People’s Choice award votes will be collected at the desk and announced on November 4th.

We are trying something new with this show. We are asking the artists to photograph their framed works and load them into the website.

This year, our 70th season, will be different. Let’s make good art together.

Stay Safe,
Tom Flaherty
