Judge Barbara Anderson Hill
First, I want to thank the Fort Myers Beach Art Association for the opportunity to judge the Fall Judged Members Show. I want to thank the artists that entered. It is a challenge to put your work up for review. Overall, when I look at a work of art, I put IDEA over technique. Originality wins over Presentation. I am also impressed by the quality of framing in this show. That is part of the ‘finished’ painting. Once again, thank you for inviting me to judge this show.
Judge Barbara Anderson Hill's Overview of the Show

Lee Ackert Memorial Award
Judge’s Comments
I’m pleased to see an artist that combines experimental realism and abstraction. The ambiguity of the letters is compelling. There is originality of the image and the medium.
Second Place
Judge’s Comments
This painting reminds me of Ed Hopper. The cars are vague and the viewer is drawn by the movement. There is a feeling of calm and foreboding. This is a very compelling piece.
Third Place
Gretchen Johnson Memorial Award
Judge’s Comments
The opacity of the paint and the scale is very well done. This is quintessential abstracting. There are no recognizable objects. It conjures up lots of meanings with no obvious clues.

The shrimp boats are very professionally handled of an iconic image. Excellent portrayal of a watercolor ship yard.

Abstraction, but reads as an image. Ambiguity! A wonderful example of the image versus abstraction. The tonality creates a mood. I especially love how it is framed.
